Day Trading At The Beach - Can It Get Any Better?

There's a lot of hype around day trading. Sneaky vendors make you believe that you can trade whenever you want and whereever you want.

You probably have seen this picture a hundred times: You are sitting somewhere at a beautiful beach and make tons of money with day trading:

Beach Office

Yeah, right!

I just returned from a vacation on the beach. Let me tell you: There's no way that you can actually trade on the beach for the following three reasons:

  1. Have you ever taken your computer outside and look on the screen? Did you see anything?
Maybe it's just me, but I can't see a darn thing! My eyes are blue and therefore light sensitive, so I am wearing shades in the sun. The intensive sunlight on my screen combined with the dark glasses of my shades make my screen appearing completely black. What helps is a huge beach towel over my head and my computer, but it's hot as hell under this towel and it doesn't really look cool.
    .
  2. If you have been at the beach lately then you know that there's sand everywhere. And the sand gets into everything. I found sand in places where I never thought it could possibly be, but it was. So you better have a great warranty on your computer, because even if you are a big fan of beautiful white sand, your computer is probably not.
    .
  3. My idea of living at the beach is sleeping in, enjoying a nice breakfast and then slowly starting the day. When you are day trading, this is definitely not possible, since the best moves in the markets happen in the first two hours after the opening. If you are somewhere on a beach in Florida, then it is not too bad: You need to get up at 8:00am EST so you can start trading the Euro and the Interest Rates at 8:30am. But if you are spending your vacation on the US West Coast, then you would have to get up around 5:00am! And what about Hawaii? Your alarm clock will go off at 2:00am.

If anybody figured out how to successfully trade at the beach, leave a comment!

Until then, I will stay away from the markets while I am on vacation and focus on trading again when I am back.

Happy trading!

Solved

Problems 1 & 2 are solved by buying a house with a veranda. #3 is solved by placing your house somewhere in Spain or France =)

Trading Stocks, Futures, Options on Futures, and retail off-exchange foreign currency transactions involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for all investors.
